Dawson Schilz Ms. Lehmann 1-1A English 12 March 2019 My Experience My name is Dawson Schilz, and I had an interesting experience while I was at Roaring Springs in Meridian, Idaho. It was my first time going there. On the ride up to Roaring Springs with my family, I was anxiously waiting to have fun on the waterslides. Then, I didn’t know that I was going to be as frightened as I ever would be by going on one of the scariest rides at Roaring Springs.
We were going up to Roaring Springs because there was a reading challenge in elementary school and I accomplished the challenge. I had to read a certain number of hours. I was in 5th grade at the time, so I had to read 8 hours. When we finally pulled into Roaring Springs, it was bigger than I thought it would be. I was amazed at how many attractions there were. I saw a wave pool and there was a dipping dot stand.
We hopped out of our car and walked up to the entry gates. As my parents were paying for the tickets, I was waiting anxiously and trying to decide which ride to go on first. After our parents paid for our tickets,we walked into the crowded area.My siblings and I all wanted to go in separate directions. Our parents made us go in groups of two or three so that we wouldn’t get lost.
I really wanted to go to Viper’s Vortex, so we went there first. We all called it the toilet bowl, because you go down a tube, then you go in an open area that looks like a toilet bowl.Next, you go in circles on your raft until you go down into a hole in the middle of the bowl. Finally you empty out into a little tube and get off of the ride. That ride was fun, but it made me a little dizzy.
After the Viper’s Vortex, we went to Thunder Falls. My sister and cousin were screaming at the top of their lungs. I didn’t think that it was that scary. After they calmed down, we tried to decide which ride we were going to go on next.
“Why don’t we go to the Wave Pool,” I suggested. Everyone else wanted to go to Mammoth Canyon. We finally decided on Mammoth Canyon. After another screaming episode, I felt as if my ears were about to burst. We met up with our parents and we took a little break and got a little container of dipping dots from the concession stand. We also talked with our family about what we thought about the rides.
“The girls were screaming their heads off,” I complained. We told them that we went on Viper’s Vortex, Thunder Falls, and Mammoth Canyon. I ditched my sister and cousin and decided to go on a couple of rides with my mom.
The first ride that I went on with my mom was called The Avalanche. I felt like Iwas going to fly off of the edge because Iwent up and down the sides of the semi-oval. My mom and I were terrified to death. We were both screaming on the top of our lungs.
Finally, I went on the Cliffhanger. My mom didn’t want to go on it because we had to climb a couple of stories high, then had get into a little tube. The employees counted down from three, they pushed a little button on the outside of the tube. After a couple of seconds, the floor dropped from underneath me. I went flying down almost vertically at high speeds. There wasn’t a cover on top of me after the floor dropped out from underneath me. I reached the bottom in about three seconds. This was the scariest ride because of how high above the ground it is and also how the floors dropped out from underneath me. I was glad that I overcame my fears.
I left Roaring Springs with confidence in my heart. I conclude that people need to overcome their fears to be successful in life. You can’t just stay in your comfort zone all the time. You need to get out of your comfort zone and explore what life really is about.
